Version 1... Tranquility
The original game of Tranquility was written in 1991 by William A. Romanowski and released on Silicon Graphics computers. It was distributed in some releases of the operating system by SGI, especially on the Indigo line.
In 1998 William Romanowski partnered with David Cook to create TQworld and Tranquility for Apple Mac OS and Microsoft Windows. This was a networked version of Tranquility, with levels being created by servers.
In 2021 David Cook created a Javascript version of Tranquility (this game). This version is visually similar to Version 1 but retains the network level creation of Version 2.

Game Goal...
Each level contains a random structure that stretches up from the grid and into space.
To begin playing, click (or tap) the CLICK / TAP HERE TO PLAY button.
Move towards the structure and collide with any of the steps to move upward. Continue to collide with the steps as you rise higher and higher.
If you miss a step you will fall to the ground... keep trying!
At the very top and end of each structure is the final target step... a flaming sphere. Collide with the sphere to win that level and have a new level generated.
Once you start, you can retap the screen to position your joystick. Where you tap is your joystick center. Retap again to reposition the center to wherever you want.
Move up from joystick center to move forward, down to move backward. Move right from joystick center to rotate right, left to rotate left.
Use the modifier buttons in the upper right corner to change options (see below).
Tranquility is easier to play on a tablet then a phone.
Once you start, the center of the screen is your joystick center. Move your mouse above the center to move forward, down to move backward. Move your mouse right of the center to rotate right, left to rotate left. Best played full screen!
Use either modifier keys or the modifier buttons in the upper right corner to change options (see below).
Desktop users can change options while playing by using keyboard keys. Both mobile and Desktop users can change options also using the modifier buttons that appear in the upper right corner when a level starts. The following are the keys/icons with a description:
B | - Mute/unmute background music. | Q | - Quit the game.
S | - Mute/unmute step sounds. | ↑ | - Tilt the camera up.
P | - Pause/unpause the game. | ↓ | - Tilt the camera down.
N | - Request a new level. |
Other than your IP address (which is logged) and current level number, neither Tranquility nor the Tranquility game servers collect or record any other information about you or your game play. The game contacts our servers for each level, to receive that levels setup information.
